Chen Yan

Chen Yan was born in 1980 in the province of An Hui, China. In 2005, she graduated from the photography department of the Central Academy of Fine Art, Beijing. In 2004 and 2005, her works were exhibited at the Pingyao International Photography Show in Shanxi.

To contrast the darkness of her settings, Chen Yan uses elaborate light installations for her non-digital photographs. Her portraits and self-portraits, set in closed rooms, are characterized by subtle melancholy and introspection.
