Liu Liyun was born in 1974 in Inner Mongolia, China. She graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, in 1999. In 2000, she received a second diploma at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, United Kingdom.
Her works have been shown in many solo and group exhibitions. Among these are the “Winds of Artists in Residence” exhibition at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan (2003-2004); the “Chinese Contemporary Art Triennale” in the Nanjing Museum, China (2005); and the “Chengdu Biennale” at the Chengdu Modern Museum, China (2005).
Liu Liyun’s hand-made, silk installations are inspired by traditional Chinese landscape paintings. She creates three-dimensional, dreamlike sceneries which often consist of technological objects.
