Lai Sheng Yu and Yang Xiaogang (“TA MEN”)

Lai Sheng Yu and Yang Xiaogang were born in 1978 and 1979, respectively, in the province of Hunan, China. In 2001, they both earned Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from the printmaking department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.

Beginning with the inaugural Dashanzi Art Festival (Beijing, 798 Art Center, 2004) the duo has been collaborating as “They Co., Ltd” (aka TA MEN). By inventing the concept of a “company” and strictly sticking to collaborative enterprises, they point to the relationship between artistic individuality and the linking of art and business.
